Aidonis quits PASOK to become independent
PASOK MP Christos Aidonis on Thursday quit the socialist party, a member of Greece’s three-party coalition government, to join Andreas Loverdos’s new movement.
“Those who believe that there is unlimited time for an endless discussion over the regeneration of the party only become accessories to its decline,” Aidonis had said in recent statement on Facebook.
His departure leaves the government with a majority of 163 seats while PASOK is now down to 24 MPs.
On Wednesday, Venizelos issued an invitation to all the deputies who have been pushed out of the party recently to return to the fold as the Socialists prepare for a national congress next month.
Former minister of health in the last government of PASOK, Andreas Loverdos, announced the establishment of RIKKSY last month.
