Last chapter for National Book Center
The National Book Center (EKEVI), set up in 1994 to help authors and publishers and to promote Greek publications abroad, is to be closed down, the Education and Culture Ministry said on Friday.
Deputy Minister Costas Tzavaras said that the ministry itself would take over EKEVI’s tasks, which ranged from organizing the annual Thessaloniki Book Fair to awarding literary prizes and even assisting with schemes to get more books into schools.
Tzavaras indicated that the employees at EKEVI would be moved to other positions in the public sector. EKEVI was created when composer Thanos Mikroutsikos was culture minister 18 years ago.
