Neo Faliro-Piraeus tram extension construction to begin in March

Construction work for the extension of the Athens tram between the city’s southern coastal district of Neo Faliro and the port city of Piraeus is expected to begin in March, following an agreement signed by Attiko Metro SA and Themeli SA at the Ministry of Transport on Monday.

The extension, which had been delayed by four years, will cover 5.4 kilometers in 12 stops, beginning from the tram’s existing Peace and Friendship Stadium stop in Neo Faliro and terminating at Akti Poseidonos in Piraeus.

It is estimated that the tram extension will serve approximately 35,000 passengers on a daily basis.

The project is expected to be completed by February 15 at a cost of 50 million euros. The distance between Neo Faliro and Piraeus is expected to be covered in 8 minutes.
