Possible end to protest by judges in sight
Judges could be set to vote on whether to continue the daily go-slow protests they launched in September in opposition to wage cuts, which have led to thousands of cases piling up at the country’s courts.
Kathimerini understands that some judges intend to propose at a meeting of the Judges and Prosecutors’ Union on Saturday that ballot boxes be set up at all local chapters on Sunday, January 27, so that justices can decide whether to continue their action or return to normal working hours.
For the last five months, judges have been walking off the job between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. They have filed appeals against their wage reduction. Partly as a result of the protest, there is a backlog of 40,000 cases at the Council of State.
