People smugglers, would-be migrants intercepted in Orestiada
Border guards in Orestiada, northern Greece, on Thursday arrested three Romanian nationals and 19 would-be migrants from Asia and Africa following an inspection of a truck near the village of Dikaia.
Two Romanians, the 41-year-old driver and a 60-year-old passenger, were arrested on the spot after officers discovered the migrants – six Afghans, six nationals of Eritrea, five Syrians and two Iraqis.
Later in the day, police arrested a 37-year-old Romanian motorist who is believed to have acted as a scout for his two compatriots.
