GSEE to appeal to European court on austerity

The General Confederation of Greek Labor (GSEE) will lodge an appeal against the austerity measures set out in the memorandum with the European Court of Human Rights, the GSEE’s president Yiannis Panagopoulos said on Friday.

Referring to the probe into the so-called Lagarde list of depositors, Panagopoulos remarked that «the privileged classes remain untouchable while all the burdens are borne by the working class.

Earlier this week, the rightwing anti-bailout party Independent Greeks filed a suit against the representatives of the International Monetary Fund, the European Commission and the European Central Bank – collectively known as the troika – for alleged crimes against the Greek people and humanity. The right-wing party claims the measures imposed by the troika led to a number of Greeks committing suicide. The measures “gradually caused in the soul of each victim a morbid disposition,” the party argued.
