ND neck and neck with SYRIZA, indicates new poll
Support for government coalition leader New Democracy stood at 28.2 percent against 27.9 percent for opposition SYRIZA, according to a new poll released late on Tuesday.
Carried out by Marc for Alpha channel, the poll took place during the January 18-January 21 period.
The majority of respondents (62.3 percent) thought that Greece had avoided bankruptcy altogether, while 31.6 percent felt that a default was unavoidable.
On the subject of tax evasion and corruption, 52.7 percent of respondents said they believed the coalition government was not doing enough to curb graft.
The vast majority of those participating in the poll (75.9 percent) felt that a probe regarding the Lagarde list of Greeks with deposit accounts in a Geneva branch of HSBC would not lead to any tangible results, while 20.8 percent believed the parliamentary inquiry would have a positive outcome.
The survey also pointed to New Democracy chief Antonis Samaras as the most appropriate choice for Prime Minister (53.2 percent), with SYRIZA’s leader Alexis Tsipras earning 30.9 percent.
Sixty-three percent of those asked would like to see the coalition government complete its four-year term, while 32.3 percent felt that early elections were in order.
