Killers had been arrested for robbery 3 times in last 18 months

A 77-year-old woman who was found strangled to death at her home in Karystos, Evia, on Wednesday was killed by two men who had been arrested three times for robbery in less than 18 months, police said on Thursday.

The announcement was made after the two suspects, aged 20 and 21, were arrested.

They allegedly tied a noose around the victim’s neck and choked her to death before taking 30 euros in cash and some jewelry, which was found in their possession.

The two men had been arrested twice in August 2011 and once in December 2012 on suspicion of stealing from elderly victims.

They were released after each arrest.
