Prescription costs dropped 20 pct in second half of 2012
The cost of an average prescription for medicine fell by 20 percent in the second half of last year to 36 euros, according to figures presented to Health Minister Andreas Lykourentzos on Friday.
The reduction is attributed to a decline in drug prices and the switch to prescriptions being written according to the active agent rather than the brand of medicine.
According to the data presented by the Computer Center for Social Security Services (IDIKA), which manages Greece’s e-prescription scheme, 4 million prescriptions were issued on average each month last year.
