Ministry warns against using fireplaces as Athens air pollution intensifies
The Environment Ministry yesterday called on Athenians to avoid burning wood and other biomass in fireplaces and boilers following a sharp increase in the concentration of air pollution particles in the city’s atmosphere.
The increased air pollution has been aggravated by a cloud of dust from the Sahara Desert that has engulfed Athens, as is customary at this time of year, and the unseasonably high temperatures.
