Former Central Macedonia governor faces additional charges
A Thessaloniki prosecutor has brought additional charges against former Central Macedonia Governor Panayiotis Psomiadis and his brother, Dionysis Psomiadis, a former deputy governor for construction works, for allegedly awarding 456 projects without tender during the 2006-11 period.
According to a report compiled by a financial inspector, the siblings’ actions led to the state suffering damages of 4.1 million euros.
The projects were based on budgets that did not exceed the sum of 45,000 euros.
The former governor appealed to the Council of State earlier this year over a decision to remove him from his post after he was given a 12-month suspended jail sentence for reducing a fine issued to a gas station owner in Thessaloniki.
