Larissa Prison inmate caught smuggling drugs into jail

A 50-year-old inmate at Larissa Prison in central Greece was caught on Wednesday trying to smuggle almost 80 grams of heroin into the jail by swallowing the drug in 38 packets.

The prisoner was returning from Patra Prison, to which he had been transferred in order to appear in court.

Prison guards said the inmate, an Albanian national serving a 10-year sentence for drugs offenses and blackmail, had intended to sell the narcotics to fellow prisoners.
