Three robbers collared in Athens, including long-term fugitive
One of the three men arrested last Friday in connection with armed heists in Athens is 57-year-old Spyros Zolotas, a convicted robber who has been at large since the mid-1990s, when he was sentenced to 23 years in jail, police sources said on Wednesday.
Police arrested two more suspects – a 39-year-old lookout and a 38-year-old taxi driver – and were seeking another three people in connection with an armed raid on a bank branch in Peristeri, western Athens, last Friday.
The 57-year-old tried to set off a hand grenade during his arrest but was disarmed by police.
