US interested in brokering deal with Greek Navy

Washington has expressed an interest in supplying Greece with naval support aircraft just days after discussions between Athens and French officials about a possible deal.

Kathimerini understands that the USA is prepared to supply four Lockheed P3-Orion surveillance aircraft for free or a symbolic fee as long as the Hellenic Navy is prepared to agree a refurbishment deal with Lockheed Martin that would cost approximately 250 million dollars (190 million euros), payable over five years.

US sources said that it would cost about 150 million dollars each if these aircraft were bought new.
