‘Revisionist historian’ hired as adviser on citizenship law

Avgi newspaper on Tuesday accused the government of employing an historian who has presented a revisionist view of the Nazi regime as its adviser on naturalization.

The daily brought to light a book written by Yiannis Kotoulas (photo) called “The Rise of the Third Reich” in which he refers to Nazism as “a great revolution,” as well as a magazine article in which he refers to concentration camps as “a normal and established practice of all warring sides.”

Kotoulas was transferred in September 2012 to work in the office of Deputy Interior Minister Haralambos Athanassiou, where he serves as an adviser on the citizenship law.

The government recently repealed Greece’s naturalization law after a court ruling and is set to replace it with tougher rules.
