Parliament votes to lift immunity of Golden Dawn’s Kasidiaris

Greek Parliament on Wednesday voted in favor of lifting the parliamentary immunity of Golden Dawn MP and spokesman Ilias Kasidiaris, with regard to the latter’s involvement in an incident that took place during a live television morning show on Antenna TV in June, last year.

During the breakfast show, Kasidiaris had repeatedly slapped Communist Party MP Liana Kanelli after the two disagreed over whether there were oil reserves south of Crete.

Wednesday’s plenary session also voted in favor of lifting the parliamentary immunity of New Democracy deputy Michalis Tamilos in connection to a case of unpaid contributions to social security fund IKA during his tenure as Mayor of Trikala.

Meanwhile, an Athens court last week acquitted Kasidiaris over charges brought against him for being part of a group of five who had attacked a student in 2007.
