Cypriots against measures but in favor of euro

Cypriots are strongly against the measures imposed on them by the Eurogroup but are in favor of staying in the eurozone, a snap opinion poll showed on Sunday.

The survey conducted by Insights Market Research and the University of Cyprus showed that 72 percent of people believe that deposits under 100,000 euros should not be affected.

A similar 71 percent said that the Parliament of the republic should reject the bill imposing a haircut on bank accounts and a tax hike on interest and corporate takings.

President Nicos Anastasiades is seen to have failed to get a decent agreement by 73 percent of Cypriots, but 62 percent are still in favor of the country staying in the eurozone, against 28 percent who are in favor of a return to the Cypriot pound.
