Two businessmen remanded in custody in Proton Bank scandal

Two businessmen were remanded in pretrial custody over the weekend after testifying to the magistrate in charge of investigating claims that Proton Bank issued millions of euros in non-performing loans to businesses connected to the lender’s former main shareholder, Lavrentis Lavrentiadis, and associates.

Antonis Rogopoulos, one of the shareholders of the Karaiskakis Stadium, and Vassilis Karamouzis, CEO of Alapis pharmaceuticals, are among five people arrested last week in connection to the case.

Prosecutor Ioanna Hatzaki deemed they are a flight risk and ordered them remanded in custody pending trial.
