Man wanted in Acharnes shootout detained

A man wanted for the alleged murder of a 53-year-old Albanian and for injuring another two foreign nationals in Acharnes, northwest Athens, last year was arrested in Athens on Wednesday.

According to police reports the suspect was detained on Wednesday along with an accomplice following two robberies in the areas of Melissia and Vrilissia, in the northern suburbs, earlier in the day.

In April last year the 29-year-old suspect allegedly injured a 58-year-old Albanian national who was standing at a bus stop by hitting him with his car. The suspect later returned with a handgun and shot the 53-year-old Albanian and a 35-year-old Pakistani national.

The 53-year-old died of his injuries while the injured 58-year-old Albanian and the Pakistani national were taken to hospital.
