In US message for Greek Independence Day, Kerry applauds economic reforms

In a message to mark the 192nd anniversary of Greece’s Independence Day on Monday, US Secretary of State John Kerry made special reference to the country’s economic reforms and expressed support as Greek suffer the effects of a deep economic recession.

“The United States applauds Greece’s efforts to reform its economy and lay the foundation for a more prosperous future,” said Kerry. “We commend the people of Greece for your resilience and courage during these trying economic times. We stand in solidarity with you as you strive to restore economic growth and stability.”

Ahead of the March 25 military parade in Athens, Kerry pledged US backing for Greece.

“As you celebrate this special day, know that the United States is a partner and friend. We look forward to deepening our cooperation in the years to come to foster a more secure and prosperous world.”
