Kavala mayor rapped for failing to curb cafe spread
An appeals court in Kavala, northern Greece, on Wednesday upheld a seven-month suspended prison sentence passed down to the city’s mayor, Costis Simitsis, after he repeatedly failed to penalize local cafes and restaurants for illegally placing tables and chairs on sidewalks outside their premises.
According to court sources, Simitsis has been exonerated on five similar charges in the past.
