Volos youths arrested over arson attack on bank tied to Golden Dawn

Two students, aged 21 and 23, and a 17-year-old high school pupil arrested in connection with an arson attack on a branch of Bank of Cyprus in the central town of Volos on Thursday are believed to have links to the neofascist Golden Dawn after raids on their homes turned up weapons and paraphernalia bearing the party’s name and logo as well as photographs of Adolf Hitler and documents bearing the swastika.

The teenager’s parents were also detained after trying to hide two boxes containing revolvers and a sawn-off shotgun.

Golden Dawn said in a statement that it had “no links whatsoever” with the three youths, who were caught close to a firebombed ATM of a Bank of Cyprus branch in Volos early on Thursday.
