Cellphones, weapons found in terror suspects’ cells

A search of the prison cells of several suspected members of the urban guerrilla group Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire turned up several cellphones, police said on Friday.

The search on the cells at Korydallos Prison was carried out overnight by guards and members of the police’s special forces at the request of the prison director Maria Stefi.

According to sources, a total of 17 cellphones, as well as 42 makeshift knives and 88 iron bars were confiscated from the cells of the suspects.

A similar raid was carried out at the main prison in Trikala, central Greece, from which 11 inmates escaped on Monday and a cellphone and weapons were discovered.
