Bomb squad removes grenade from busy Athens neighborhood

Bomb disposal experts were called to Kallithea, southern Athens, on Friday morning after a hand grenade was found on a sidewalk.

The device was taken away for examination as police search for clues that could explain how and why it was left there.

Meanwhile, army bomb disposal experts defused an 81 mm shell dating to the Greek Civil War near Xanthi in northeastern Greece on Friday.

The missile, more than 60 years old, was discovered near a sheep pen in the area of Glafki.
