Lagarde list inquiry to question ex-intelligence chief over PM’s ‘briefing’

MPs probing ex-Finance Minister Giorgos Papaconstantinou’s handling of the Lagarde list called the former heads of the Financial Crimes Squad (SDOE) and the National Intelligence Service (EYP) for questioning on Monday evening to establish whether ex-Prime Minister George Papandreou was informed about the CD containing the names of some 2,000 Greeks with accounts at HSBC’s Geneva branch.

Diotis submitted to the panel this week copies of an e-mail exchange he had about the list with Papaconstantinou in July 2011, when both were still in office. Diotis suggested in one of the messages that then EYP chief Constantinos Bikas had briefed Papandreou about the list. Bikas has since denied this was the case.
