January 2018 deadline for Thessaloniki metro already out of reach, says consortium
The project to build a metro system in Thessaloniki will not be completed by its 2018 deadline due to “endless delays” and unresolved technical snags, according to the consortium that has undertaken the venture.
In a letter to Attiko Metro, the construction consortium has pushed for action, noting that a January 2018 deadline was already out of reach, Kathimerini understands. The consortium is reportedly pushing for changes to the construction blueprint which, it claims, contains “erroneous assessments,” but there are fears such changes would increase the project’s budget.
Meanwhile, the Development Ministry appears to be wavering ahead of a rumored merger between construction giant AEGEK, which leads the consortium, and AKTOR.
