Ex- and current Myconos mayors set to stand trial for alleged embezzlement of 10 mln euros

The current and former mayors of Myconos are set to stand trial for allegedly embezzling some 10 million euros of municipal funds.

Prosecutor Giorgos Economou recommend on Monday that current mayor Athanasios Kousanthas-Megas and former mayor Christos Veronis as well as several other municipal officials face a court over accusations that rates paid by local companies between 2002 and 2009 did not appear in municipal coffers.

One businessman is also set to face trial on charges of giving false testimony.

Charges against several other municipal employees, two bank staff and 12 businessmen should be dropped, the prosecutor proposed.
