Peloponnese policeman probed for dipping in till
A deputy police precinct chief in the Peloponnese is being investigated by the internal affairs division over suspicions that he managed to steal over 3,500 euros by pocketing small amounts of cash from chits meant to reimburse officers for travel expense and from stamps used to certify driver’s licenses for small motorcycles.
The police officer is believed to have been gradually extracting money from his precinct since 2012, collecting 2,500 euros from travel expense payments and another 1,000 euros by issuing stamps of smaller value than the 6 euros he received from citizens wanting to receive or renew a motorcycle license.
The unnamed policeman has been suspended from duty pending investigation.
