Police arrest 10 suspected Panathinaikos hooligans ahead of AEK basketball match
The 10 people arrested outside a basketball stadium in northern Athens on Sunday while in the possession of Molotov cocktails, pepper spray and clubs were Panathinaikos fans who intended to ambush supporters of AEK, police sources said on Monday.
AEK was due to play Holargos in a second division match on Sunday but ahead of the game in the northeastern suburb, police arrested the 10 suspects, aged between 21 and 35.
They had 20 firebombs in their possession and were waiting for the AEK supporters to arrive.
Hooligans associated with the two clubs have clashed recently, leading to one arrest and two injuries at a basketball match last month.
