Mine workers clash with residents over Halkidiki mine project
Tensions rose in the village of Megali Panaghia in Halkidiki, northern Greece, late on Monday when mine workers and local residents confronted each other as the latter protested the operation of a controversial gold-mining project, Hellas Gold, which is 95 percent-owned by Canada’s Eldorado Gold.
Called to the scene, police forces used stun grenades to disperse the angry groups.
