Riot breaks out at Corinth migrant detention center; 47 arrested

Police on Wednesday arrested 47 Afghans at an immigrant facility in Corinth, south of Athens, after they hurled roof tiles at their guards.

The immigrants, who are protesting their ongoing detention, also set fire to mattresses and one of the facility’s units.

Police used tear gas to break up the riot. The attackers have been charged with resisting authority, arson, and causing bodily harm.
