Three officers suspended after inmates walk out of Athens precinct

Three police officers serving at the Aghios Dimitrios precinct in southeast Athens were suspended from duty on Thursday after three prisoners managed to escape from the station’s holding cell.

The escapees are an Algerian and an Afghan national who were being questioned over theft charges, as well as another Afghan national who was caught without proper documentation.

The three officers who have been suspended were the duty officer and two guards, who apparently did not realize that the three inmates managed to saw through the bars of their cell, bore a hole through a wall into a storage room and walk straight out of the precinct through the main entrance.
