Locals try to attack murderer of 20-year-old in Igoumenitsa

Dozens of residents from the village of Filiates, in northwestern Greece, where a 25-year-old livestock farmer stabbed to death a 20-year-old nursing student on Wednesday, gathered outside the police station in nearby Igoumenitsa on Thursday with plans to storm the building and attack the perpetrator.

The 25-year-old was taken into custody several hours after fleeing the scene of the crime, which he committed in front of dozens of witnesses at midday on Wednesday, stabbing the young woman a total of 35 times in the throat and chest.

He was being led by officers to appear before a prosecutor in the town of Igoumenitsa when dozens of enraged villagers from Filiates had to be held back by police from attacking him.
