Greek government condemns Boston Marathon bombings [UPDATE]

Greek Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos on Tuesday expressed the government’s “absolute condemnation and abhorrence” at the double bombing on Monday in Boston during the American city’s marathon, in which three people were killed and at least 144 injured.

Speaking from London, Avramopoulos called the assault “an attack on all of us. Against the symbolism of the Marathon and the values it represents.

“In these difficult hours, our thoughts are with the injured and the families of the victims. Greece stands at your side.” Avramopoulos added.

Later on Tuesday, Prime Minister Antonis Samaras sent his condolences to US President Barack Obama over the attack, saying that “such horrific acts, targeting innocent citizens, are absolutely condemnable.”
