Top court dismisses residents’ appeal against gold mine in Skouries
The Council of State on Wednesday rejected an appeal by residents, farmers and businesses in Halkidiki against mining activity in Skouries.
Locals had taken legal action to stop Hellas Gold from mining for gold in the area. They argued that the mine would damage Skouries forest and cause widespread environmental damage.
Greece’s highest administrative court rejected their appeal and ruled that the project was in line with environmental demands. It is the court’s third ruling in favor of the project.
