Samaras trying to set up meeting with Obama during trip to US in June

Prime Minister Antonis Samaras is attempting to arrange a meeting with US President Barack Obama in Washington in early June, Kathimerini has learned.

The Greek premier will be in the US capital to speak at the American Jewish Committee’s Global Forum, which takes place between June 2 and 4.

Sources said that Athens is trying to arrange a meeting with Obama at around that time, which would be soon after the US president is due to hold talks with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The two leaders’ meeting is due to take place on May 16.

It is understood that Samaras will also visit the United Nations in New York for talks with Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon during his trip to the United States.
