Traffic police officer killed after being hit by car in Kifissia

A 42-year-old traffic policewoman was killed on Tuesday morning after being hit by a 34-year-old motorist while on duty at the junction of Kifissias Avenue and Aghiou Dimitriou Street in the northern Athenian suburb of Kifissia.

The driver of the Smart car that hit the officer, a 34-year-old, was detained as authorities investigated the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Public Order Minister Nikos Dendias expressed his condolences for the death of Adamantia Siafla, a mother of two whose husband is also a police officer.

According to the Greek Police, 10 traffic officers have been killed while on duty in the past 15 years.
