Doctor’s report said to back brutality claims at Grevena prison
A doctor’s report has supported allegations made by inmates in Grevena Prison, in northern Greece, that they suffered serious physical injuries when they were beaten by officers of the police’s special EKAM squad and guards earlier this month, Eleftherotypia reports.
The police have refuted the allegations, saying the cell searches were conducted by prison officials with a prosecutor present.
According to Eleftherotypia, the doctor found that 28 inmates had bruising in various parts of their bodies. Some of the injuries were allegedly caused by taser devices.
The incident and the report were to be discussed Thursday by the parliamentary committee on prisons.
