Hospital waste found in trash on beach in Peloponnese
Piles of rubbish and medical waste that had been dumped illegally near Valimitika beach in Aigio, in the Peloponnese, have been unearthed due to coastal erosion at the mouth of the Selinounda River following strong northerly winds, local reports said on Monday.
Aigialia Mayor Stathis Theodorakopoulos speculated on Monday that the trash had probably been buried at the site many years ago by unknown individuals. He pledged that authorities would clean up the area.
However, locals have reportedly already collected part of the rubbish and incinerated it to avoid potential health hazards.
