Woman held for locking up 83-year-old father
Police in central Macedonia yesterday arrested a woman and were seeking her sister after the siblings’ octogenarian father was found locked up in a tiny room where he had been allegedly kept for 16 months without sanitation and on a starvation diet. The arrest came after officers found Giorgos Karadzoglou, 83, imprisoned in a 5-square-meter room in an abandoned house on the outskirts of Angelochori, some 20 kilometers (13 miles) southwest of Thessaloniki. This followed a complaint by villagers who heard the elderly man calling for water. Police arrested Anna Karadzoglou, 38, for illegally holding the man and were seeking her 40-year-old sister, Maria. Their father was taken to a Thessaloniki hospital with symptoms of starvation. Reports said he had been locked up for the past 16 months and fed once a week.
