Residents stage new protest against Halkidiki gold mine
Police fired tear gas to disperse a protest against the Skouries gold mine in Halkidiki on Wednesday.
Residents of Ierissos and other villages had organized a protest against the gold mine, which received the approval of the Council of State last month after appeals by locals against the environmental impact were rejected.
Police said that some of the protesters caused minor damage to a guard post outside the mine during Wednesday’s protest
