Teacher who played hooky for two years is fired

A teacher from Thessaloniki who had been absent from school for more than two years was fired on Wednesday.

The Council of State, Greece’s highest administrative court, ruled that the unnamed man should not be allowed to return to work.

A disciplinary panel had deemed that the teacher should be fired but in 2008, he won his appeal and had his sentence reduced to a six-month suspension.

However, Public Administration General Inspector Leandros Rakintzis appealed that verdict, taking the case to the Council of State.
