Nea Makri suspect turns himself in
A 25-year-old man suspected of heavily beating his 23-year-old girlfriend in Nea Makri, northeast of Athens, handed himself over to police on Wednesday. A warrant for his arrest was issued in early April.
According to police reports, the suspect had called the victim, Fai Bachla, on her mobile phone a few minutes before she was found lying on the street.
The victim succumbed to her injuries last week and her parents subsequently donated her organs.
The suspect was arrested in June last year for allegedly attacking a member of the Greek Communist Party at an electoral stand in Aghia Paraskevi, in northeastern Athens. At the time, the Communist Party had alleged that the assailant was a member of far-right Golden Dawn.
