Bank hit linked to terror group tied to older robbery

Police have drawn parallels between a double bank robbery in Velvento, northern Greece, in February, which led to the arrest of four suspected members of the Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire guerrilla group, and another bank heist last October in Pyrgeto, near Larissa in central Greece, suggesting that the same team might have been behind both hits.

In both cases – the heists on branches of ATEbank and Hellenic Postbank in Velvento and the raid on a branch of ATEbank in Pyrgeto – the perpetrators made their getaways in vans that had been transformed to resemble ambulances, police said. Also there were at least four perpetrators in both cases.
