Strawberry pickers injured in Manolada

Two Bangladeshi men aged 25 and 33 were arrested Friday morning near the village of Nea Manolada in Ilia on suspicion of injuring two strawberry pickers, also Bangladeshis, at a local farm following a row about unpaid wages.

According to police, the two men, along with two accomplices, went to the makeshift accommodation where the strawberry pickers live and stabbed them after the latter demanded their unpaid wages.

Police said the 33-year-old was acting as a foreman at the farm and had been given 12,000 euros to distribute among the workers. The two accomplices were still at large last night.

Last month, three Greek foremen at a New Manolada strawberry farm were arrested after shooting at Bangladeshi workers demanding their wages. Almost 30 workers were injured.
