Sun and sea win elementary school pupil Google doodle contest

The sun, the sea, a fishing boat, a couple of seagulls and a Greek flag earned Asterios Refnik, an elementary school pupil from Litochoro in Pieria, northern Greece, the honor of gracing the homepage on Tuesday after his drawing was chosen for the day’s Google doodle.

Refnik was among thousands of children from around the country who submitted an entry to the Doodle 4 Google contest aimed at encouraging children to use their imaginations, which was open to all pupils from 6–18 years, with four age categories. The theme was “My Greece” and the winner to the contest for the popular search engine was announced on Monday.

His was one of 60 selected by a team of judges from the entries and put to a public online vote from April 15 to May 7.
