Probe into use of chemicals in fruit and vegetables launched
The Athens Prosecutors’ Office launched an investigation on Tuesday into the use of chemicals in fruit and vegetables after tests by Greenpeace on 24 different types of produce revealed traces of 27 chemicals, some of which are banned in the European Union. The probe will investigate whether there is substance to the allegations by Greenpeace.
Among the chemicals found were linuron, a herbicide whose ingestion may cause nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, and imazalil, a fungicide believed to be carcinogenic.
