Plans for revamp of Athens center submitted to experts
The preliminary designs for an ambitious plan to revamp central Athens with the pedestrianization of Panepistimiou Street have been submitted to a committee of experts ahead of the expected announcement of a construction tender in the fall.
The committee, comprising officials from the Environment and Development ministries as well as transport and cultural experts, is to peruse three documents: the architectural design for the project, being undertaken by Dutch firm Okra; a design of the project’s impact on public transport; and a study for the extension of the tramline from its terminus on Amalias Street to Aigyptou Square, near the Patission Street and Alexandras Avenue junction.
