Ties between the cities of Athens and New York could strengthen following a meeting between Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg at New York City Hall on Wednesday evening.
Kaminis, who was on an official visit to the US city, was born in New York.
Speaking to the press Kaminis referred to the meeting as “very warm and honest” and added there was plenty to learn from the New York Mayor who is at the end of his third mandate. Bloomberg, said Kaminis, had offer assistance in the fields of urban innovation.
In New York Kaminis also met with local officials specializing in volunteer work and discussed ways in which the City of Athens could develop synergies with urban movements which have emerged in the Greek capital over the last few years. Another topic on the discussion agenda was the environment.
