Kouvelis asks gov’t to revoke civil mobilization order for teachers
Coalition partner and Democratic Left leader Fotis Kouvelis on Thursday urged the government to revoke a civil mobilization order issued to secondary school teachers following a decision by their union, OLME, to call off a planned strike for Friday, the first day of university entrance examinations.
Kouvelis who met with the members of OLME’s board on Thursday, also called for the development of a constructive dialogue between the government and teaching staff.
Secondary school teachers are seeking the revocation of a draft presidential decree foreseeing a two-hour increase to their weekly working hours. They are also protesting government plans to scale back auxiliary staff hirings next year.
